Where was your ceremony?
First Congregational Church, Nantucket
Where was your reception?
Harbor House Village, Nantucket (which no longer exists!)
Did you have a first look or see each other for the first time down the aisle?
First looks were not really big back in 2004, so we saw each other for the first time going down the aisle. If we had the choice and we were to do it again today, I would have opted for a first look and would have done all of the photos before the ceremony.
DJ or Band?
DJ…we are big music people so we had a big list we wanted to hear. And hiring a band on Nantucket is expensive!
Your first dance song
You’re Still You by Josh Groban
Your favorite thing about your wedding
Everything! Just being on Nantucket was amazing! But if I had to pick one, I would say our bridal party introductions. We chose a specific song for each person, and they did not know the song until they were announced. They then had to own it and dance their way in!
One thing you would have done different
Hired someone to do my hair and makeup. At the time it was a cost saver, but looking back I wish I spent the money!
One piece of wedding advice to brides and/or grooms
Do what you want because you love it, not because it is a trend or on Pinterest. I didn’t have Pinterest to plan and The Knot and WeddingWire were super new! I went with my love for the island and kept it clean and simple. I was not a wedding planner when I planned my wedding either! My mom and I planned the whole thing on our own. Looking back, it would have been helpful to have someone on island that could have assisted, but I don’t regret a thing!
Any other fun things you want to share?
Personalize your welcome bags! We ended up doing Nantucket baskets from Christmas Tree Shop filled with Nantucket Nectars, personalized water bottles, personalized bags of cheddar whale crackers, personalized bags of pennies (here is the story behind the pennies), and bags of my favorite Nantucket Chocolate Chip Cookies from Something Natural.
One other thing that is interesting to share is that back when we got married, detail shots by your photographer were not a huge deal! So when I was going through my photos there were hardly any photos of all of the great DIY elements of our wedding. Chris Cook did a fabulous job of capturing our beautiful church, the stunning day at Brant Point and the pack dance floor though!
